Often, people in relationships mistakenly believe that dating sites are great places to make numerous "matches"... yet the reality is far from being so delightful.

When I hear the enthusiasm of a newcomer on singles platforms, I become a bit of a buzzkill.

We all have a list of encounters that have become memorable for various reasons.

Here are a few odd ones that crossed my path:

- The one for whom giftedness had been diagnosed... Perhaps he should have read before telling me his IQ was 190-195! Einstein had 160, and you surpassed him by over 30 points, good for you champion!

- There was this weird who claimed to communicate with my deceased father! Shouldn't he have known that my father tended to push away men like him?

- There were men who concocted ridiculous scenarios intead of saying the truth, it does not clic! Isn't it simpler to tell the truth?!!

There were also memorable people who allowed me to have a more positive opinion such as:

- Martin, a priest with an astonishing journey. I'll always cherish the beautiful sharing of life experiences;

- There was Alexandre, who helped me elevate my tennis game;

- Martin, the police officer who was my pen pal for few seasons, from whom I learned that there are still good people out there!

When I distinguish the odd ones and the memorable ones, the latter are those who understood that happiness starts from us, and as long as we doesn't love ourself, it will be impossible to love anyone else.

Mathematically, when I consider that in the greater Montreal area there are approximately 4.3 million people.

From this pool, men in my age group: 138,805 potential candidates

Let's say 50% are single: 60,380 potential candidates

If I find 5% of the candidates attractive: 3019 potential candidates

If I am attractive to 5% of the candidates: 150 potential candidates

In this pool of 150 potentials, with how many will I have affinities or common interests? How many will be ready for a serious relationship? Will the chemistry click between us?

Mathematically the probabilities of meeting someone potential in 2024 are slim, but not impossible! Statistically speaking, everyone should be in a relationship, my friend Vincent would tell you. You have to sift through many stones to find a gold vein! To all these singles, I say keep hope alive; one day, someone will find you!
